On Topic: Obama’s Grade- From the Right

December 15, 2009

I’ll Give You A “B” for Blame Bush

I did not watch the Oprah Winfrey interview of Obama, just as I promised (I mean good grief I was having too much fun at a Christmas party after all), but I did happen to catch wind of the now-infamous grade Obama gave himself. And I have to say if by B+ Mr. Obama meant bad, or beastly, or bummer, than I would have to agree. Here’s the run down:

On her Christmas in Washington special on ABC last night, Oprah Winfrey asked President Obama to grade himself.

“Good, solid B-plus,” the president said.

Explaining, he said, “we have inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

“We stabilized the economy, and prevented possibilities of a Great Depression or a significant financial meltdown. The economy is growing again.

“We are on our way out of Iraq. I think we’ve got the best possible plan for Afghanistan.

“We have reset our image around the world

Now in the president’s defense, I know he can’t go around telling the truth. I mean of course he can’t say, “Well, Oprah, to be honest, we’ve passed a gigantic pork-filled $800 billion dollar stimulus that has done nothing to improve the economy. I know I promised unemployment wouldn’t go over 9%, and we’re now at 10. And I know the value of the dollar is in the tank. I mean good grief Oprah, we are 12 trillion in debt, and I want to spend even more…”

He also can’t say, “I promised the American people government-run healthcare and I can’t get that done, and I don’t really care if we are victorious in Afghanistan. I know that the success in Iraq was due in large part to Bush and McCain, so if I sum it all up, I think I deserve a big, fat FAIL.”

I mean seriously what good has come out of his presidency so far? He says the world likes our image now, yet the world voted down Chicago. Iran is building up nuclear power plants, and every where we turn, powerful dictators are plotting our failure. But he won the Nobel! Oh goody! And I’m sure his golf game probably deserves a B+ with all the time he’s spent on the course.

You know what Mr. President,  I reconsider, I’ll give you two B’s… for Blame Bush, since you do seem to have that down perfectly.

Evil Rich CEOs- What about the Evil Rich Celebrities?

August 27, 2009

cropped-012.jpgSince the recession and government bailouts, CEOs of American companies of have been excoriated for their overwhelmingly large and totally unfair salaries.

Here is one example:

Excessive executive compensation has taken center stage since the government bailout of banks that began in September 2008. Americans have expressed outrage as CEOs and other executives responsible for the financial crisis have pocketed millions of dollars from bonuses and golden parachutes. CEO perks alone grew in 2008 to an average of $336,248—or nine times the median salary of a full-time worker. Meanwhile, the economy tanked for working people while many companies were bailed out with more than $700 billion in taxpayer money, as well as low-interest loans and guarantees.

And another.

You get the picture.

But just how does CEO compensation stack up against Hollywood celebs and pro athletes?  Here is a list of the top CEOs’ compensation in millions from 2008.

  1. Aubry Mclendon- Chesapeake Energy- 112.5
  2. Sanjay Jha- Motorola- 104.4
  3. Robert Igor- Walt Disney- 51.1
  4. Lloyd Blankenfein- Goldman Sachs- 42.9

Now compare their outrageous compensation to the likes of Oprah Winfrey who just last year made a paltry 260 million (take that Aubry you lightweight!) Or what about Tiger Woods who managed to bring home a meager 128 million in 2008?  Hell the Rolling Stones even brought in 88 million last year and Johnny Depp 92.  Phil Mickelson made 62, Madonna, 72. Even the boxer, Floyd Mayweather managed to scrape together just over 40 million big ones. Need I go on?

So my question to the sanctimonious Left that hate the evil corporations and those copious CEOs that run them is this: why drone on and on about unfair CEO pay but say nothing about the pay of your friends in Hollywood and in the sports arenas? At least the evil CEOs’ and their evil firms deliver goods and services that we need and use. At least the evil CEOs’ and their evil firms keep us at work and employed.  So here’s what I ask you to do and I will even ask nicely, pleeeeaaaaase stop your bitching until you spread the hate fairly. Got it?!
