So You Think You Can Dance, top 8

December 10, 2009

I’m sad I didn’t have time to post before the cuts last night. I’ll get to them in a second as well as the usual stuff, but first I have 2 complaints:

1) Ashleigh and Ryan’s guilt trips on Tuesday. She’s injured and he fake cries their way into the top 6. How could you buy into this America?! These two are the worst dancers to ever get so far through the competition. I really wish they would let us call to vote off. I would vote the entire 2 hours for these 2.

2) A finale with the top 6? Are you kidding? I can’t believe they planned it like this. Why couldn’t they have cut out one week of stupid auditions in order to fit in a real finale?

But onto better things…The Best routine:

Ellenore and Legacy really did kill it. But then….

the Worst:

On 2nd viewing, I don’t think it was as bad as I originally thought, but still the weakest on a strong night.

But we all know the outcome: Legacy and Mollee left last night. And neither should have gone.

Finale next week! I’m so glad Kathryn and Russell made it. And on a side note, I hope they never do back-to-back seasons again. Last season was way better than this one.

SYTYCD top 10

My absolute favorite:

I completely agree with what Adam said the WOW moments have been so few and far between this season. Ellenore and Jakob showed everyone how good these minute and a half dances can be and it really made me wish they had been together all along. In my opinion, Ellenore is emerging as a dark horse. She has been in some of the most memorable routines so far this season and this routine really showed her to be a star.

And in 2nd place:

I LOVE RUSSELL. But I still can’t call a clear cut winner. Jakob is still the best, but I’m not sure if he’ll be the favorite. No surprise here: I thought Kathryn was great in both her dances, but man, was Nathan a different boy this week or what? I didn’t catch last week’s results show but they must have torn him up. I think he swung too far the opposite way in his emotions to be likable this week. He just seemed so, so sad. This girl was a surprise for me: Noelle.  She had a great night esp. in the hip hop. Her partner Ryan did well too, but male ballroom dancer’s solos always seem weird.

The worst:

I knew Ashleigh would be revealed for the lame duck she is, but the bad thing is Legacy, one of my absolute favorite dancers, was partnered with her. BUT I should say, I really think these 2 looked so awful because of choreography. As Adam pointed out, we all know they can both do hip hop, so a lame routine might land them in the bottom.

In the bottom: We’re so close to the end and its getting harder and harder to predict. So I’m going to throw a hail Mary-

Girls: Ashleigh, Mollee, Noelle     Boys: Ryan, Nathan, Legacy

SYTYCD week 3

November 11, 2009

Tonight was weak. My favorite was Russell and Noelle with Afrojazz. I LOVE Russell- he has an inner-glow that shines through his smile and when he dances. Even so, it was missing something for me.

Channing and Victor’s was pretty good- loved the choreography and music selection, didn’t love the performance. But Karen and Kevin were great, as always. Karen is the strongest female contender.

Worst of the week definitely goes to Mollee and Nathan. I wish they would stop acting like 12-year-olds in the interview packages- it makes it awkward for all of us watching- like seeing a little sister try so hard to be sexy. (did you notice she high-fived the choreographer who told her she was sexy? ha!) And the dancing was so, so off.

But thankfully for them, many other couples were off too. Like Ryan and Ellenore in hip-hop and Pauline and Peter in the quick-step (although I agreed 110% with what the judges said about performance.)

I do think the judges were wrong on 2 things: 1) Ashleigh/her dance with Jakob. Nigel was wrong- this cane dance was not up to snuff with the table dance for Mandy Moore. Ashleigh is not nearly as good as they praise her for being, and I didn’t feel any of the intensity the judges felt. 2) Legacy and Kathryn’s routine wasn’t as bad as they made it out to be. And they tore Kathryn up for something her choreographer may have (probably) told her to do- act cute. The moves were all cutesy, and they stuck her in that cutesy outfit.

Predictions for bottom 3 couples: Ellenore and Ryan, Pauline and Peter, and Kathryn and Legacy (crossing my fingers this last won’t come true because it should be Mollee and Nathan.)

I guess we’ll see tonight…What did you think?
