Olby: A Vile, Hypocritical, Affected, Prevaricating, Self-Absorbed, Drama Queen

January 25, 2010

Yep, I think that pretty much sums it up.

Two things: Number 1) last week Olby made these comments on the seemingly pro-corporate Supreme Court ruling.

Hey Olby, last I checked the little news organization for which you pontificate was owned by one of your so-called EVIL corporations, General Electric. Conflict of interest much? Hmmmmm.

Number 2) I’ll just let John Stewart explain.

Finally, I couldn’t do a post on Olbermann without including one of my favorite SNL vids of all time.

Howling at New Moon

November 20, 2009

Everyone’s getting in on it- mocking the Twilight series. And I applaud them. There is so much to make fun of and laugh at. I’m still baffled, by the way, as to why anyone likes the last book…

But I digress…because it’s so rampant, here are my top 3 favorite Twilight/ New Moon parodies.

3. New Moon parody on Jay Leno.

2. Taylor Swift on SNL. Her Bella is pitch perfect.

Andrea’s Pop Culture Essentials

November 16, 2009

Nov. 15- 21

1. John Mayer’s new CD Battle Studies comes out Nov. 17! I heard a leaked copy and it is good. Solid, classic mayer. I HATE his current single, Who Says. The rest of the album is better.

2. Precious opening in Jackson on Friday- there is so much Oscar Buzz about this film, and I saw a couple interviews with the star, Gaboures Sidibe. LOVED her.

3. New Moon! I mean, this is going to be the feel-good movie of the year… Just kidding! those of you who know me for real know there’s no way I’ll ever see this movie.

The real #3: Broken Embraces starring Penelope Cruz and directed by Pedro Amaldovar, the team behind one of my favorite movies from last year, Volver.

4. Joseph Gorden-Levitt hosting SNL Nov. 21. I think he’ll be really good (he can’t be worse than January Jones). And if you don’t know who he is, see 500 Days of Summer.

5. Open by Andre Agassi

6. Christopher Walken’s spoken word version of Pokerface:

7. Too Much Happiness by Alice Munro. Maybe you’ve never read anything by this short story master, but its time to start. She is a genius. YOu can start with my favorite collection of hers, Runaway.

8. My Sister’s Keeper on DVD Tuesday

Fact Check This

October 6, 2009

cropped-012.jpg

On SNL last Saturday night (heehee), they did a sketch that made fun of the fact that Obama had not been able to accomplish anything in the first nine months he has been in office. You can see the really bad impersonation, but funny monologue here:

What you may find unbelievable is the fact that CNN’s Wolf Blitzer decided to “fact check” the SNL skit poking fun of president Obama.

Where’s the sense of humor, Wolf?   I mean are you guys so sensitive that you can’t take a wittle jokie-wokie?  Did that mean ole Fred Armistan just take things too far?  Well, I would love to know where CNN was when SNL was poking fun at Sarah Palin or her husband Todd, during the campaign. I guess they didn’t care about “fact checking” things then.

Forget Leno

September 15, 2009

Hey guess what everyone?! Jay Leno’s back! At the 9:00 slot- its a whole new show! with a monologue and skits and guests!…Oh…its his old show, just earlier. One notable moment from the premier last night: Kanye apologized for his antics Sunday night.

Basically, I don’t care that Leno is back- I think the late night world was just fine without him, and I wish he would just leave it to my favorites, Jimmy Fallon, Craig Ferguson, and of course, that crazy red-head Conan.

Let’s start with Fallon- (watch for my fav clips of Craig and Conan later on) On SNL, Fallon was always the first to giggle in a skit, and he still giggles on his show, like when his friend Will Ferrell is a guest, but mostly, he seems to have grown out of it. Haven’t given Fallon a chance on late night? Here are 3 of my favorite moments

1) Robert Pattinson vs. Daniel Radcliffe.

Patrick Swayze takes final bow

September 15, 2009

Swayze was undeniably a very talented, attractive dancer and actor. Also, a singer/songwriter of “She’s like the Wind”(It’s on your Dirty Dancing soundtrack.) The dream guy of thousands of girls everywhere across generations.

I liked Ghost and Point Break (admit it- It’s awesome.) But these are the 2 scenes I’ll remember him best for- The finale of Dancing where he pulls Baby out of that corner and dances into the heart of the stuffed shirts in the room.

The other? 1 word: Chippendale’s
